Initially the water taxi service will be available from South Mumbai to Belapur, Vashi, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in Navi Mumbai and Mandwa. These water taxis will reduce the journey time by road from 1.5 hours to 40 minutes. However, the trust has not finalised an operator yet. Because of this, service charges and other crucial details are not yet determined. 

With water taxis, people would be able to reach Navi Mumbai in about 30-40 minutes instead of one and half hours by road. In February 2020, the MbPT started roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) services from south Mumbai to Alibaug. The service was an instant hit among daily passengers. As per Ro-Ro service operator’s data, (between August 20 and the first week of September), nearly 5000 passengers, 1200 cars, 270 two-wheelers and cyclists used the ferry.
